HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team opened a two-game series against the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday with an 81-61 loss at McCabe Gymnasium.
Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS) logged team highs of 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Silverswords who fell to 1-2 on the season.

Kali Jones (Hyrum, Utah/Mountain Crest) added seven points and six boards for Chaminade. Tacking onto the scoring ledger with five points each were
Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS),
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell),
Amaya Washington (Peoria, Ariz./Dream City Christian) and
Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup).
The Nanooks were paced by Kayla Johnson's 20 points and 11 rebounds to improve to 3-1.
The 'Swords held a 17-16 lead in the second quarter before the Nanooks went on a 17-7 run which helped them take a 35-25 halftime lead.
Chaminade trailed by a reasonable 57-47 count at the end of the third quarter but was out-scored 24-14 in the final quarter.
The 'Swords shot 33.3 percent from the field and pulled down 38 rebounds with 10 assists.
UAF was 42.9 percent from the floor with 42 rebounds and 16 assists.
The two teams will square off again on Friday at McCabe Gym. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
