NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team opened their lone mainland trip of the 2024 season Tuesday, facing off against Westmont College and the CSUN (formerly known as Cal State Northridge) at the Matador Tennis Complex.
The Silverswords dropped both matches by identical 7-0 counts to fall to 0-6 on the season.
Match 1: Westmont 7, CUH 0
The doubles matches took place, as
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and
Sydney Danielson (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) took one game in No. 3 doubles. The Warriors won two of three in securing the doubles win.
In singles, the Nos. 2
Jordyn Luna (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Maui) faced off with Sophia Ostovany giving the Warriors (2-14) a scare with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. No. 1 singles of
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and Francesca Aguirre had a 6-0 and 6-1 finish.
Match 2: CSUN 7, CUH 0
The Division I Matadors (8-2) captured the win over Silverswords, as they swept the singles and doubles competitions.
The Nos. 6 singles match between Buttery and Cindy Ung took place as Buttery was able to capture one game with Ung up taking the win by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The Silverswords continue their Southern California road trip Wednesday as they will take on Concordia University Irvine, the 41st-ranked squad in Division II according to the ITA rankings, at 10 a.m. Hawai'i time.
