WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Monday completed their lone home stretch of matches with a 6-1 defeat to fellow Pacific West Conference member Dominican University of California at the Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park (CORP) Tennis Courts.
After dropping the doubles point, the Silverswords had their most competitive singles competition up and down the board against a Dominican squad which improved to 5-2 on the year.
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) got the 'Swords' first singles win of the season, defeating Koitka Logan, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 at the No. 3 draw. It was also the junior's first career singles win.
At No. 1 singles,
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) gave the Penguins' Zoe Coggins a run, dropping the first set, 7-5, before retiring in the second due to an injury.
Jordyn Luna (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Maui) took three games in her opening set at No. 2 singles while
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) overcame a slow first set at the No. 6 court and pushed Ana Rios before succumbing, 7-5, in the second set.
The Silverswords (0-5) played four matches in three days which represents their only scheduled competition on O'ahu. They are next in action later this month when they make a Southern California road trip starting March 26 when they face new PacWest member Westmont and Division I CSUN (formerly known as Cal State Northridge) in Northridge, California.
