GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Chaminade University men's golf team wrapped up the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout Saturday at The Golf Club of Estrella, finishing in a tie for 18th with Regis University.
The Silverswords shot a final round 610 for a 36 hole total of 625 in the tournament hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.
Ky Stopp (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) carded three birdies on the morning, firing a final round 1-over-par 73 to finish as Chaminade's low scorer at 7-over 151.
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) finished his 36 holes at 155. The sophomore started the morning well with birdies on the 5th, 6th and 8th holes and parred seven of the next eight before bogeying the final two to finish his second 18 at 3-over.
Jack Yeager (San Clemente, Calif./JSerra Catholic) finished at 159 followed by
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) at 161 and
Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep) at 164.
Colorado Christian won the team title at 566, four shots better than runner-up Dallas Baptist. DBU's Sam Jenkins took medalist honors at 8-under 136.
The tournament featured teams from five different conferences in the West Region (Pacific West, CCAA, GNAC) and South Central Region (RMAC, Lone Star).
The Silverswords will remain in Goodyear and open the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, hosted by Western New Mexico University, at the Palm Valley Golf Club on Monday.
