Men’s Golf to Play in PGA Works Championship

5/1/2024 11:48:00 AM

HONOLULU – The official season may be over for the Chaminade University men's golf team but the competition continues.

The Silverswords will be participating in the 2024 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) presented by Chase from May 6-8 at the famed TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vera Beach, Florida. Called "the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf," the PWCC will be televised nationally on the Golf Channel and streaming on Peacock, NBC's streaming app. The event is the first such national tournament for Chaminade men's golf.

The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) across all three NCAA divisions, NAIA and junior colleges. Chaminade is a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Serving institution.

"I am excited that our golf team has been invited to the PWCC this year and a chance to play at the TPC Sawgrass," head coach Renee Yuen said. "This is a unique event in its emphasis on providing schools the opportunity to compete on the championship stage that they would otherwise not have."

The 'Swords are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Pacific West Conference Championships, their highest finish ever. Ky Stopp (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) was seventh in the individual race after being in contention after the first 36 holes.

Stopp, Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep), Blake Buonopane (Rowley, Mass./St. John's Prep), Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) and Jack Yeager (San Clemente, Calif./JSerra Catholic) will comprise Chaminade's team at the PWCC.

Live coverage on the Golf Channel and streaming on Peacock begins at 9 a.m. Hawai'i time all three days.
