Women’s Hoops Drops Road Finale

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team wrapped up their 14-day, five-game road trip Saturday with a 77-49 loss to Westmont College at Murchison Gym.

The outcome was a far cry from the first meeting between the two back on Jan. 2 in Honolulu when the 'Swords got the game winner from Morgan Escobedo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle) as time expired.

Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS) was the only Silversword to reach double digits in the scoring column with 18 points while pulling down six rebounds.

Amaya Washington (Peoria, Ariz./Dream City Christian) added nine points with she and Elmasri accounting for all six of Chaminade's 3-pointers with three each. Escobedo added seven points with Kali Jones (Hyrum, Utah/Mountain Crest) getting seven rebounds and six points.

The 'Swords completed the roadie with a 1-4 mark while falling to 6-14 overall and 5-9 in the Pacific West Conference.

Sage Kramer had 23 points for the Warriors who won their seventh straight to improve to 12-6 and 8-3 in the conference. Westmont hasn't lost since their defeat at Chaminade.

The game turned in the second quarter when Chaminade was outscored, 19-5. The 'Swords made just two field goals in the period while the Warriors were 9-of-16.

Chaminade shot 35.1 percent and went to the free throw line just six times. They were out-rebounded, 54-to-27 and committed 16 turnovers.

Westmont shot at a 48.4 percent clip with three made triples and were 12-of-23 at the charity stripe. The Warriors had 15 assists to 15 giveaways.

The Silverswords return to the friendly confines of McCabe Gymnasium and open their final four home games when they face Dominican University of California at 5:30 p.m.
