Men’s Soccer Gains Draw to Snap Slide

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team ended an 11-match skid Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Biola University at Saint Louis Field.

A goal from Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) helped the Silverswords get their first non-defeat since 1-1 deadlock against Vanguard University last October.

The tie moved the 'Swords to 0-6-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the Pacific West Conference while the Eagles are 4-4-3 and 1-2-1 in the conference.

With just under two minutes left in the half, a Biola foul gave Chaminade a free kick some 37 yards from the goal. Medeiros took the set piece and lofted a perfectly arced shot that sailed over Eagles goalkeeper Francesco Tricarico and into the net. Combined with his one year at Western Oregon University, it was Medeiros' first career collegiate goal.

It also ended CUH's streak of seven straight shutouts, snapping a drought of 740:22 consecutive minutes without a goal dating back to the second-to-last game in 2024.

Biola responded quickly in the second half, getting a header score from Jackson Finn to knot the score. Neither team was able to get the winner before the end of the second 45 minutes of action.

Despite being out-shot, 21-to-5, including 13-to-2 in the second half, the 'Swords held their own against an Eagles squad that had 17 goals entering Saturday. Medeiros took three of Chaminade's shots with Kawainui Anderson (Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Caleb Yap-Texeira (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) taking the other two.

Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) had nine saves on the afternoon while Tricarico made two.

The Silverswords are back on the Saint Louis Field pitch next Saturday when they face the University of Hawai'i Hilo in their annual non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
