Men’s Soccer Topped by UH Hilo in Non-Conference Tilt

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Saturday faced off against interisland rival University of Hawai'i Hilo in their annual non-conference tilt with the Vulcans scoring a 4-0 decision at Saint Louis Field.

A season-high 23 Silverswords got on the pitch with three of them -- Edward Hudcovic (Makawao, Maui, Hawai'i/Adams State University/Kamehameha-Maui HS), Jayden Chaiyote (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) and goalkeeper James Boudiette (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) – saw their first minutes of the season.

In the case of Hudcovic, who got the start at one defender spot, it was his first action in a Chaminade uniform after playing in six games in his previous school at Adams State in 2023.

Chaiyote and Boudiette, who was on the team last year but did not play, were making their collegiate debuts.

The loss dropped the 'Swords to 0-7-1 on the season while the Vulcans are 6-4-2. The conference match will be the season finale on Nov. 6 on the Big Island.

UH Hilo scored less than three minutes in on a set piece by Shudai Ito. They added three scores in the second half although one was aided by Chaminade on an own goal in an attempted clear out.

The 'Swords took five shots on the afternoon with Owen Malone (Carlsbad, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Carlsbad HS) taking two of them. Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) came within inches of getting CUH on the scoreboard in the ninth minute but his shot glanced off the crossbar.

Alex Hume (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) got his first career start in front of the net, making two saves before making way for Boudiette in the 33rd minute. The latter recorded two stops in his 56 minutes of work.

UH Hilo took 16 shots, nine on-goal, and had 10 corner kicks. Adam Frank made two saves for the Vulcans.

Next week, the Silverswords will wrap up the home portion of the schedule with their final two games at the Saint Louis Field pitch. The first of the two will be on Thursday when the 'Swords will face Concordia University Irvine at 12:30 p.m.
