Women’s Soccer Earns Draw to Biola

HONOLULU – The result of Saturday's Chaminade University women's soccer team's game was the same as five others before it – a draw.

The Silverswords managed a 1-1 tie against visiting Biola University at Saint Louis Field. It is their record sixth draw of the season, which is three shy of the NCAA Division II record set three times previously.

The 'Swords (1-2-6 overall, 1-2-2 Pacific West Conference) got their lone goal off the foot of Madelynne Knowd (Ramona, Calif./Ramona), the senior's first career score.

At the eight-minute mark, Knowd's throw-in towards the Eagles' box was headed out by a defender. The ball ricocheted right back to Knowd, who one-timed a 25-yard chip shot over the defenders, just clearing the crossbar at the right shelf.

Biola replied later in the half on a score by Leah Kakigi, a Waikele native, with nine minutes left in the half.

Defenses held firm for the rest of the match, although the Silverswords launched a barrage of shots inside of three minutes left. Clara Slate-Liu (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Ecolè Alpha Secondary) and Isabella Narvaez (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) each had two shots blocked while Narvaez's second try from 10-yards out went just wide of the left-side post.

The 'Swords out-shot the Eagles, 15-to-6, although just two of their tries were on-goal. Biola had three shots on target. Knowd and Narvaez each took four shots at the net.

Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) made two saves for Chaminade. Autum Monty played the first 24 minutes in-goal for Biola before being pulled for Laura Brennan for the final 66.

The Silverswords will get the next 12 days off before resuming action on Thursday, Oct. 23 against nationally ranked CUI in their penultimate home match at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is at 10 a.m.
