HONOLULU – In their penultimate home game of 2025, the Chaminade University women's soccer team was on the short end of a 2-0 decision to Concordia University Irvine on Thursday at Saint Louis Field.
The Silverswords were on the wrong end of two unlucky goals, one coming with just three seconds left in the first half, the other on a fortunate hop over the defense.
The 'Swords fell to 1-3-6 overall and 1-3-2 in the Pacific West Conference while the Golden Eagles improved to 9-2-3 and 4-1-2 in the conference.
Chaminade actually outshot CUI, 14-to-9, a perennial PacWest power ranked just outside the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
The 'Swords put the pressure on Golden Eagles goalkeeper Riley Urquiza early, firing eight shots in her direction in the first half. CUI was held to only three but it was its final attempt of the half that put them on the board, courtesy of Reagan Van Horn who put in a loose ball at point blank range with just seconds left.
CUI got another lucky break in the 59th minute when a pass bounced over a host of players, the ball finding Elle Soleau who got past a defender for a header goal.
Chaminade, however, was not able to find a lucky penny or four-leaf clover the remainder of the game.
Four 'Swords –
Shannon Healy (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde),
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega),
Bailey Loria (Fontana, Calif./Aquinas) and
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) – each took two shots. Five of their attempts at the Concordia net were on-goal.
Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) made four saves in the loss.
The Silverswords will play their final home game of the season on Saturday against Westmont College at the Saint Louis Field pitch at 12 p.m.. It will be the final home games for nine seniors, one of the largest graduation classes for 13th year head coach
Michelle Richardson. All nine will be honored following the end of the match.
