HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team began the
Travis Brewster Era on Tuesday with a 90-33 exhibition defeat to Division I University of Hawai'i Manoa at Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Under Brewster, the sixth head coach in program history after 12 previous years of collegiate head coaching experience in three different stops, the Silverswords made their first appearance at the Stan Sheriff Center since November 2011.
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) notched a team-high eight points for the Silverswords in their first game of the 2025-26 campaign. The junior guard hit all four of her field goal attempts.
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) tacked on seven more while
Kylie Squier (Branchville, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) and transfer
Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) added six each.
Dezaray Carter (Honolulu/Sacred Hearts Academy), who is entering her final season in a CUH uniform, hauled in six rebounds.
Kira-May Filemu had a game-high 16 points for the Rainbow Wahine, picked to win their third straight title in the Big West Conference Preseason Poll.
Although the 'Swords faced a significant point differential at halftime of 41 points, they battled to start the second half and were outscored just 14-13 in the third quarter. They held UH to 6-of-17 shooting in the period (35.3 percent) while making 5-of-12 themselves. Dolny had six of Chaminade's points, making both of her 3-pointers during the stanza.
The 'Swords held Hawai'i to 41.7 percent shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes and forced 10 turnovers.
The Silverswords' next outing is their McCabe Gymnasium season debut on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Northwest Indian College in a 5 p.m. exhibition contest.
