Men’s Soccer Downs Jessup Behind Caba’s Milestone Day

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team concluded their final match on the mainland this season with a 3-1 win over Jessup University at Warrior Field.

Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn), Caleb Yap-Texeira (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and Gio Aceves (San Diego/Sweetwater) scored for the Silverswords, who improved to 2-8-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the Pacific West Conference. Their newfound momentum has resulted in two wins and a draw in the past seven days.

Caba also had an assist, which helped him tie a set of CUH individual milestones.

The Warriors fell to 2-9-4 and 0-7-1 on the year.

In the 15th minute, the 'Swords went on the attack with Oliver Horgan (Reno, Nev./Cal Poly Humboldt/Galena HS) finding Hunter Santoscoy (Florence, S.C./Union University/West Florence HS) at the left side of the box. The latter then fired a cross at the net with the ball deflecting off a defender straight to Caba who was there to stick in the ball for the game's first goal. It was Caba's eighth career goal, putting him in a tie for third in the program's career history annals.

Jessup got the tying goal in the 62nd minute, but less than a minute later, Caba fired a shot, which was deflected by Jessup keeper Alonso Ruiz. Yap-Texeira was in the right place, blasting in the ricochet for the goal, his second in as many games.

Caba got the noteworthy assist. Combined with his earlier goal, it gave the senior not only his ninth career assist but his 25th career point, tying him with Colin Roemer atop both career marks.

The 'Swords' got their final goal as time expired when Aceves stuck in a misplayed ball by backup goalie Curtis Lynch.

Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) faced nine Jessup shots and recorded one save.

Chaminade took six shots on the afternoon, five coming in the final 45 minutes. The Warriors attempted nine shots in all.

The Silverswords will end the season Thursday against in-state rival University of Hawai'i Hilo on the Big Island with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
