SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team wrapped up the first leg of their Southern California road trip Saturday with a 75-46 loss to Westmont College at Murchison Gymnasium.
Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) had a team-leading 11 points for the Silverswords (0-9, 0-5 Pacific West Conference).
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) tacked on eight more on the scoreboard followed by
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) and
Kylie Squier (Branchville, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) with seven each. Parado also dished out a career-high six assists.
Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS) and
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) both hit a pair of 3-pointers for the 'Swords.
Buttery, Parado, Squier and
Libby Hein (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison) each had three rebounds each.
Jazym Shipp had 19 points for the Warriors (8-2, 4-0 PacWest) who won their sixth straight.
Under similar circumstances in their previous game at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, the 'Swords got off to a slow first quarter start where they were down 21-6. But they managed to keep pace in the next two quarters with 32 points, making 11-of-19 shots combined including six triples.
Chaminade shot 37.2 percent from the floor with a season-high seven 3-pointers, 22 rebounds and 10 assists.
Westmont was at 36.0 percent, made four treys and was 17-of-21 at the foul line. The Warriors pulled down 53 rebounds and had 15 assists.
The Silverswords will take the NCAA Division II-mandated Christmas week off. Their next action will be on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. against Vanguard University at McCabe Gymnasium, where they will play 13 of their next 17 contests.
