HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball played their first game of the 2026 new year on Tuesday, suffering an 83-47 defeat to Vanguard University at McCabe Gymnasium in the opener of a five-game homestand.
Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) had a team-high 13 points for the injury-ravaged Silverswords who had just seven players available.
Chaminade was playing its first game in 24 days, marking the third-longest span between contests in program history, surpassed only by a 27-day break during the 2008-09 season and 26 in 2012-13.
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) chipped in with 10 points while
Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) and
Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS) crashed the glass for eight and seven rebounds, respectively. Holen also added eight points in the scoring ledger.
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) dished out four assists while Dolny had three.
The 'Swords fell to 0-10 and 0-6 in the Pacific West Conference.
Micaela Haning had 16 points for Vanguard (10-2, 6-1 PacWest), which is among others receiving votes in the latest WBCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
Despite offensive struggles to the first three quarters, the Silverswords managed to hit 6-of-9 shots and was out-pointed just 21-19 against a Lions squad that played all 13 in their travel party.
Chaminade made 33.3 percent from the field while Vanguard was at a 45.7 percent clip. The 'Swords made a living at the free throw line, making 17-of-24 while VU was 11-of-15. The Lions held the rebounding advantage by a 39-to-31 count.
The Silverswords face Menlo on Thursday at McCabe Gym with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
