Women’s Hoops Sets Several Season Highs Against Menlo

HONOLULU – After 24 days of game inactivity, the Chaminade University women's basketball team was back in action for the second time in three days on Thursday.

The Silverswords set several season highs against Menlo College but still came out on the short end of a 78-66 decision at McCabe Gymnasium.

The 'Swords' 66 points, 18 assists and 10 3-pointers were all season highs while their 40 rebounds tied a season best.

Playing perhaps their most competitive Pacific West Conference game this year, injury-ravaged Chaminade with eight healthy bodies, was within two points towards the end of the third quarter before Menlo pulled away in the final period.

Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) led CUH with 16 points while Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) added 13 and Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS) chipped in with a season-best 11.

Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) hauled in a season-high 10 rebounds while forward Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) also ripped down 10 to tie her season high. Also tying a career standard was Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) who dished out six assists.

Alberte Frisch had 32 points for the Oaks, who won their fourth straight and improved to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in the PacWest. Chaminade fell to 0-11 and 0-7.

Menlo led by as many as 10 in the second quarter but an 8-0 'Swords run at the end would help pull them to within a 35-31 deficit at halftime.

A 14-4 run to start the second half propelled Chaminade to a 45-39 lead, its largest of the game with Schuetze and Weaver both getting four during the stretch. However, Menlo recaptured the lead later in the quarter, eventually building a double-digit lead in the fourth to pull away.

Chaminade shot 38.3 percent during the game while the Oaks hit at a 45.8 clip. They also feasted at the foul line, making 18-of-26 shots while the 'Swords were held to just 10-of-18. For the second time this season, CUH had the rebound advantage by eight, its largest margin this season.

The Silverswords will wrap up the week Saturday against Dominican University of California. Tipoff at McCabe Gym is set for 5 p.m.
