Women’s Hoops Drops Road Contest at Hilo

HILO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's basketball team on Saturday dropped a 75-61 decision to the University of Hawai'i Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
 
Dezaray Carter (Honolulu/Sacred Hearts Academy) hit 6-of-9 shots for a career-high 18 points for the Silverswords, who fell to 0-6 and 0-2 in the Pacific West Conference.
 
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) chipped in with another 14, making 6-of-8 field goals. Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) added eight points.
 
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) pulled down a season-best eight rebounds and also hit a 3-pointer, extending her streak of making at least one triple to seven straight dating back to the final game of the 2024-25 season.
 
Tavina Harris had 15 points for the Vulcans who are 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in the PacWest. UH Hilo also picked up two points in the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge.
 
The 'Swords kept the deficit in single digits for much of the first 27 minutes before UH Hilo built its lead to double-digits at the end of the third quarter.
 
Chaminade was unable to get within single digits the rest of the game as the teams essentially traded scores in the final period.
 
The 'Swords shot 44 percent, their second best of the season and 13-of-18 at the free throw line. They pulled down 30 rebounds and committed a season-low 13 turnovers.
 
UH Hilo made half of its 58 shots from the field with four 3-pointers with 15-of-17 makes at the charity stripe. The Vulcans had 31 boards, 17 assists with seven giveaways.
 
The Silverswords will take next week off for finals then resume conference action with a three-game Southern California road trip, which begins Monday, Dec. 15 at Vanguard University.
