KAILUA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team opened their season on Friday against fellow in-city opponent Hawai'i Pacific University, falling 7-0, at the Kailua Racquet Club.
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) were the Silverswords' No. 1 doubles tandem while
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) teamed with freshman
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) at No. 2.
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and
Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy), the latter playing in her first career match in her second season with the team.
In singles action that followed,
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) got the nod at the No. 6 flight.
The Silverswords are 0-1 to start the season and will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 against Stanislaus State, a Pacific West Conference affiliate member, at the Donald Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center in Waikiki. Doubles will start at 12 p.m.
