ATHERTON, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team completed their northern California road trip Friday with a 7-0 loss to Menlo College at the Cartan Tennis Courts.
The Oaks, first-year Pacific West Conference members, took two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. But in the top duo match,
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) were trailing their Menlo counterparts, Livia Harper and Yousra Hidass, but a slim 3-2 deficit when the Oaks (4-8) clinched the point.
In singles matches, Lau dropped a hard-fought 6-2, 6-3 decision to Hidass in the No. 3 spot.
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) at No. 2 managed to take two games from Milana Hrudka in the second set while
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) won one game in both sets in No. 4 singles against Lea Mocher. Ye, at the No. 1 position, took a game in her first set against Harper.
The Silverswords (0-9) return home to face Academy of Art on Friday, March 28 in a rematch of this past Tuesday's contest won by the Urban Knights. A location and time has yet to be determined.
