HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Friday dropped a 6-0 decision to Academy of Art at the Pearl Harbor-Hickam Air Base.
In a rematch of the March 18 meeting in the Bay Area, the Urban Knights took both doubles matches to earn the point to start the morning.
In singles action,
Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy), at Court 5, might have played the Silverswords' most competitive singles match of the season. The sophomore won a tiebreaker to take a one-set lead over Maddie Morrow, lost the second set then battled in a back-and-forth final set before eventually succumbing, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 10-6.
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) took single games in both sets in her match against Stefani Georgieva at the No. 3 spot.
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) had the opportunity to face two ITA nationally ranked singles opponents. Lau, at Court 1, faced Amelija Supulniece, ranked 16th nationally and first in the west region. Carvalho battled Estelle Najean, who is No. 64 nationally and fourth in the west, in No. 2 singles.
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) rounded out Chaminade's five singles participants.
The 'Swords (0-10) will play their final home match on Saturday when they host the University of Hawai'i Hilo at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Courts starting at 9 a.m.
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) will be the lone senior honored following the competition.
