WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's soccer team came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision to in-city rival, Hawai'i Pacific University, in a non-conference match Tuesday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium between the two Pacific West Conference foes.
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Vlad Tomutiu (Belmont, Calif./Cañada College/Carlmont HS) accounted for all four of the Silverswords' shots, taking two each.
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) did not make a save for the 'Swords (0-2), whose defense held the Sharks to just six total shots.
Ralf Braun got two saves for HPU (3-0-1).
Kelly Takara's header on a cross in the sixth minute was the game's lone goal.
The Silverswords open PacWest action on Thursday, Feb. 25 on the road at Fresno Pacific, the start of a two-match conference road trip. Match time is at 4:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.
