Men’s Soccer Drops PacWest Opener at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team opened the Pacific West Conference season Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Fresno Pacific at Ramirez Field.
 
The Silverswords fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference while the Sunbirds are 2-3 and 1-0 in the final meeting between the two teams as members of the PacWest. Fresno Pacific is joining the California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA) in 2026.
 
Kala'i Duncan (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) combined for four of the 'Swords' seven total shots, taking two each.
 
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) made seven saves in 82 minutes for CUH including a pair of diving stops midway in the second half. Seeing his first collegiate appearance, freshman Alex Hume (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) got the final eight minutes in goal.
 
FPU scored the game's first goal in the 28th minute then added insurance goals in the 63rd and 79th minutes.
 
Elmer Carballo made four saves for Fresno Pacific.
 
The Silverswords wrap up their short two-match road trip Saturday at Dominican University of California. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.
