SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team wrapped up their short two-match road trip Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Dominican University of California at Penguin Field.
For the second time in three matches, the Silverswords defense played valiantly against a top scoring Pacific West Conference foe. Like they did in their non-conference meeting at Hawai'i Pacific University on Sept. 16, the 'Swords allowed just one goal. The Penguins came into the game fifth in the PacWest in goals per game while HPU was fourth.
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) had three saves for Chaminade, which fell to 0-4 and 0-2 in the conference.
The game's lone goal came in the second minute via the foot of Rolando Gonzalez.
Vlad Tomutiu (Belmont, Calif./Cañada College/Carlmont HS) had a team-best three shots for the 'Swords, who took eight as a team.
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) each attempted two for the 'Swords.
Colin Nester made six stops for the Penguins (3-4-1, 1-0-1 PacWest) while the home team took 13 total shots.
The Silverswords will return home to face crosstown rival HPU on Saturday at Saint Louis Field at 2:30 p.m. in a match that will count in the PacWest standings. The match will also count towards the PacWest Hawai'i Challenge competition.
