Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Gets Another Tie

WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – After two straight games on the Big Island to open the 2025 season, the Chaminade University women's soccer team made their O'ahu debut on Tuesday, facing crosstown rival Hawai'i Pacific University in a non-conference match between Pacific West Conference foes.

And like their first two outcomes, the Silverswords managed a nil-nil draw at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) took a game-high six shots, four on-goal, for Chaminade, which is 0-0-3 to start its season. The third straight tie matched the program record held twice which previously spanned the end of the spring 2021 to fall 2022 seasons and again at the end of 2023 into 2024.

Sofia Desirello (Menifee, Calif./University of North Dakota/Paloma HS), Bailey Loria (Fontana, Calif./Aquinas), Isabella Narvaez (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) and Bryana Yoshida (Makakilo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Fresno Pacific University/Kapolei HS) all took two looks at the Sharks' goal, accounting for the remainder of the 'Swords' 14 shots on the evening.

Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) claimed her third straight clean sheet with one save to begin her Silverswords' career.

HPU (1-2-2) attempted five shots on the night with goalkeeper Skylar Jacobsen making five saves.

Chaminade dictated control through much of the first half with 91 percent of their possessions on the Sharks' side of the field, outshooting them, 6-to-2.

As the match progressed inside of 13 minutes remaining, the 'Swords took all five of the game's final shots including two by Mo'okini with less than three minutes left.

In addition to outshooting HPU, Chaminade, which is still seeking its first-ever win at Waipio Stadium (0-5-3 all-time) took nine corner kicks while the Sharks had none. The rematch on Saturday, Oct. 4 will be a Pacific West Conference match at Saint Louis Field.

The Silverswords host their other in-state rival, 24th-ranked University of Hawai'i Hilo, in their final non-conference match of the season Saturday at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
