Women’s Soccer Gets Another Draw in Home Debut

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team made their first home appearance of the 2025 season Saturday, facing off against the 24th-ranked University of Hawai'i Hilo.

And like their previous three games to open the season, the outcome ended in a deadlock.

But unlike the first three, the Silverswords were able to get on the scoreboard, although the Vulcans later countered in the non-conference 1-1 result at the Saint Louis Field pitch.

The tie left the 'Swords at 0-0-4, the first time in school history they have four consecutive draws.

Senior midfielder Bailey Loria (Fontana, Calif./Aquinas) struck pay dirt for her first career goal for the 'Swords. UH Hilo's Delany Barbee had the equalizer later in the second half.

After a scoreless first half draw, the Silverswords advanced the ball into the attacking quarter in the 62nd minute where Loria fired a shot which was deflected by UH Hilo goalkeeper Lydia Keller. Loria stayed with the ball and fired a left-footed shot on the rebound, hitting the back of the net, giving Chaminade a 1-0 lead.

However, the nationally ranked Vulcans (1-1-3) countered 11 minutes later on Barbee's goal.

Chaminade put the pressure on UH Hilo with three shots on-goal in the final 11 minutes from Sofia Desirello (Menifee, Calif./University of North Dakota/Paloma HS), Shannon Healy (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde) and Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino).

The 'Swords out-shot the Vulcans, 10-to-9, including a 9-to-3 advantage in shots on-goal. Mo'okini led CUH with three shots, all on target.

Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) made a pair of saves for the royal blue and white while Keller made eight saves.

The Silverswords will open Pacific West Conference action on Thursday at Fresno Pacific University with kickoff at 2 p.m. Hawai'i time.
