IRVINE, Calif. -- The Chaminade University women's volleyball team rallied from a 0-2 deficit on Monday to down Concordia University Irvine, 14-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-9 at CU Arena, to wrap up their Southern California road trip.
Freshman outside hitter
Lillie Hinton (Spicewood, Texas/Lake Travis) put down a match-high 14 kills for the Silverswords, who won their seventh straight match to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in the Pacific West Conference. The victory also extended their conference winning streak to 30 straight dating back to October 2023.
Chaminade executed its first reverse sweep since doing it to Fresno Pacific on Oct. 17. 2019, and their first on the road since Oct. 7, 2015 at Utah Tech.
Alizaysha Sopi (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Tennesse State University/Kapolei HS) added eight more kills while
Audrah Johnson (Nampa, Idaho/Utah State University/Nampa HS) and
Tabby Allen (Leander, Texas/Rouse) put down seven each.
Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons) had five total blocks including three on the solo end while
Allexis Iramina (Honolulu/Moanalua) and
Lilinoe Paschoal (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin) combined to dish out 32 assists. The latter also had a season-high four service aces.j
Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium) had 15 digs with
Kyra Pagud (Honolulu/Moanalua) scooping up 12 more.
CUI got 13 kills from Caitlin Jarrell in dropping to 6-6 and 0-1 in the PacWest after suffering their fifth straight defeat.
Trailing by two sets to the Golden Eagles in their first PacWest match of the season, the 'Swords pulled away down the stretch, giving them a pulse as they forced a fourth set. CUH then used a late 5-0 run to force a decisive fifth frame.
Chaminade then seized control of the match, using an 8-0 run in the final set, forcing Concorida into six attack errors, to leave the SoCal area with an unscathed record.
Although the 'Swords were out-hit in the kills department, 55-to-46, they hit .214 to CUI's .179 and had seven of their nine aces in the final three sets.
The Silverswords return to the islands but will have one more road match when they face in-state rival University of Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday at 2 p.m. The match will be played at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium instead of on the Vulcans' campus to accommodate the University of Hawai'i Manoa's men's volleyball scrimmage which follows.
