IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team dropped the second of three games in their Southern California road trip on Saturday, a 70-38 decision to Concordia University Irvine at CU Arena in the lone meeting of the season between the two teams.
Kylie Squier (Branchville, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) had a team-high 10 points while
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) added eight more for the Silverswords (0-16, 0-12 Pacific West Conference).
Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) chipped in with seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks while
Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) dished out four assists.
Myia Collins led the Golden Eagles (11-8, 9-5 PacWest) with 18 points.
The 'Swords, whose last win came in the very same building last January, couldn't get a break from the start. CUI scored the game's first 16 points while missing its first five shots while committing seven turnovers. Chaminade finally got its first field goal at the four-minute mark on Weaver's layup. Weaver and Dolny accounted for seven of the team's eight points in the first quarter.
The 'Swords shot 24 percent in the game with three 3-pointers and were 11-of-18 at the free throw line, 35 rebounds and seven assists. After committing 15 giveaways in the first half, the 'Swords managed to limit the turnovers to just five in the final 20 minutes.
Concordia shot 42.9 percent from the field with six 3s and 16-of-26 free throws, 40 rebounds and 10 assists to 13 turnovers.
The Silverswords wrap up the road trip Monday at Biola with tipoff at 3:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.
