Men’s Soccer Falls to Westmont in Return to Home Pitch

HONOLULU – The road warriors known as the Chaminade University men's soccer team have been at home just twice over their first 11 games of the 2026 season including eight in a row with their last five in the Pacific West Conference.

On Monday, the Silverswords made just their third appearance at Saint Louis Field as they opened up their season-ending four-game homestand.

Unfortunately for the 'Swords, the reunion to their home pitch – their first since Sept. 6 against the University of Texas-Dallas – didn't go exactly as planned in their 1-0 defeat to Westmont College.

Chaminade, which defeated the Warriors in a 4-3 goal-fest on Aloha Senior Day last year, was held to four shots on the afternoon, falling to 0-11-1 and 0-6-1 Pacific West Conference while Westmont improved to 5-6-4 and 3-1-1 in the conference.

The game's lone score was in the 60th minute when a long throw-in resulted in a rather chaotic sequence in front of the CUH net where Leonel Olivo Ortiz booted the loose ball into the goal.

Chaminade was unable to answer with the equalizer as the Warriors' defense collapsed around 'Swords' chances at attacks.

Masen Heu (Makawao, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui), Oliver Horgan (Reno, Nev./Cal Poly Humboldt/Galena HS), Caleb Texeira (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and Jack Williams (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah) all launched shots towards the Westmont goal. Heu's and Williams' tries were on-goal.

The Warriors took nine shots with 'Swords goalkeeper Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) making three saves.

Tanner Shum, an Iolani graduate, got his second career start in front of the goal for Westmont, making two saves.

The Silverswords will play consecutive home games for the first time in 2026 with a Wednesday meeting with Dominican University of California on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
