HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Monday faced off against the University of Hawai'i Hilo, dropping a 7-0 decision at the Donald A. Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center.
The Vulcans (1-0) took the doubles point, winning the second and third pairings. The 'Swords had a competitive match at the No. 1 spot with
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) trailing 5-2 when the Vulcans clinched the point.
In singles competition, Lau pushed Hilo's Johanna Roggenkamp in the top spot in the first set before falling 7-5. Roggenkamp took the second, 6-0, to win the match.
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) and
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) each had 6-1, 6-1 results in Singles 4 and 5.
Hannah Lewis (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) and
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) were in the Nos. 2 and 6 singles positions.
The Silverswords (0-3) are off until March 9 when they face Division I Bucknell University in what is scheduled to be their last match at the Diamond Head Tennis Center this season.
