WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University baseball team returned to island for their first game on home soil on Saturday, opening a four-game series against Azusa Pacific at Hans L'Orange Field.
Unfortunately, their first home game since Feb. 6 was not kind, falling 16-3 in a game called after seven innings due to the Pacific West Conference's 10-run rule.
The Silverswords (3-11, 1-8 Pacific West Conference) did manage to bang out eight base hits, two from designated hitter
Cameron Breeze (Temecula, Calif./San Diego City College/Paloma Valley HS).
Caleb Kim (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Christian Academy) drove in two runs as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and
Alex Hamada (Aliso Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) had an RBI in the seventh.
Chris Mata (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/South Mountain CC/Maui HS),
Cade Fujii (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Porterville College/Kapolei HS),
Bode Poler (Montesano, Wash./Gonzaga University/Montesano HS),
Trysten Mooney (Helena, Mont./Wenatchee Valley College/Capital HS) and
Evon Williams (San Ramon, Calif./Dougherty Valley) had the other Chaminade hits.
The Cougars had 17 hits including eight extra base hits, three of which left the yard. Bryce Robinette had three hits while Caleb Velo and Matt Kurkdijan both drove in four.
Chris Cody (Orange, Calif./Irvine Valley College/El Modena HS) absorbed the loss while the win went to Casey Spencer.
Game 2 of the series is Sunday with the venue switching to Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park Baseball Complex. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
