SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team concluded their Bay Area road trip Tuesday against fellow Pacific West Conference member Dominican University of California.
A rematch of the Feb. 15 meeting in Honolulu, the Silverswords were downed, 7-0 at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center.
The Silverswords dropped the first two doubles match, clinching the doubles point to the Penguins (7-5), although
Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) and
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) were trailing 5-4 when their match against Lorenza Foster-Simbulan and Maria Gavrilov in the No. 3 spot was called when DUC clinched the point.
The 'Swords (0-8) showed plenty of fight in singles, taking games in the top four pairings.
Hannah Lewis (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) at No. 1 and
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) at No. 3 had identical 6-1, 6-2 results with
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) falling 6-1, 6-1 at the second placement.
No. 4 singles saw
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) pushing Ana Rios to a 6-3, 6-1 final score.
The Silverswords will play their final match on O'ahu with a March 27 date against nationally ranked Hawai'i Pacific University at the Kailua Racquet Club where the team will formally honor their five seniors; Bleasdell, Buttery, Lau, Palmer and
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i).
