Baseball Downed by Jessup in Doubleheader

WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University baseball team continued their four-game Pacific West Conference series against Jessup University on Saturday with Games 3 and 4 in a twin bill at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park (CORP) Baseball Complex.

The Silverswords, who scored nine times in Friday's series opener, had 10 in the matinee in their 14-10 slugfest defeat but was held to a single run in their 13-1 nightcap loss.

Chaminade fell to 4-16 and 2-13 in the PacWest while Jessup is 12-8 and 10-7 in the conference.

Game 1: JSP 14, CUH 10
The 'Swords put up a five-spot in their first inning with Cameron Breeze (Temecula, Calif./San Diego City College/Paloma Valley HS) driving in two runs.

But the Warriors roared back with three in the second and, after CUH got two more in its half of the frame for a 7-4 lead. But Jessup plated nine runs in the fourth to pull away.

Jacob Petersen (Sammamish, Wash./Everett CC/Skyline HS) took the loss while Caleb Markwith got the win. Breeze finished the game with three hits and three RBI.

Game 2: JSP 13, CUH 1
After the first two games of the series featured plenty of runs, Saturday's nightcap started out the opposite with effective pitching. Anthony O'Canas (Woodland, Calif./American River College/Woodland HS) allowed three to cross home plate in the first inning but settled down, allowing just two runs over the next five.

But like they've done all series, Jessup put up a big number, this time putting up eight runs in the seventh.

O'Cañas suffered the loss while Kia'i Kawai (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) produced Chaminade's only run on a double play in the second.

Kai Hirayama got the win for the Warriors.

The Silverswords will look to salvage a game in the series in Sunday's finale. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
