Baseball Falls to Jessup in Series Finale

WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University baseball team wrapped up their four-game Pacific West Conference series against Jessup University on Sunday with a 15-1 defeat which ended in the seventh due to the conference's 10-run-rule at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park (CORP) Baseball Complex.

The Silverswords were held to four base hits in the series finale, all coming at the top of the lineup card including lead-off batter Taylor Ayala (Bountiful, Utah/Salt Lake CC/Woods Cross HS), who had Chaminade's lone run on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.

Alex Hamada (Aliso Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel), Cade Fujii (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Porterville College/Kapolei HS) and Bode Poler (Montesano, Wash./Gonzaga University/Montesano HS) had the 'Swords' other three hits in the second through cleanup spots, respectively.

CUH starter Holden Hungerford (Downey, Calif./Cerritos College/Warren HS) allowed a solo home run on the second pitch of the game but kept the Warriors' bats in check until the fourth inning when three runs came in.

Jessup (13-8, 11-7 PacWest), which put together big innings throughout the series, had six cross the dish in the fifth to post its fourth straight double-digit scoring game and win the series outright.

Poler, hitting in the cleanup spot, had rather lengthy trips at the plate including a 13-pitch at-bat in the fourth that ended with a single to right, ending the no-hit bid by Jordan Cezar. He faced a total of 27 pitches in his three at-bats, 15 of which were fouled away.

Hungerford took the loss while Cezar earned the win.

Chaminade (4-17, 2-14 PacWest) will step out of conference action on Tuesday to face Division I University of Hawai'i at Les Murakami Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. and will be televised locally on Spectrum Sports and streaming on ESPN+ (mainland viewers only).
