HONOLULU – The Chaminade University baseball team wrapped up the 2026 season Sunday with a doubleheader defeat to the University of Hawai'i Hilo, 12-5 and 6-3, at Les Murakami Stadium on the University of Hawai'i Manoa campus.
Eight seniors were honored for playing in Silverswords' uniforms for the final time in their careers including pitchers
Hunter Belmodis (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Southern Oregon CC/University HS),
Chris Cody (Orange, Calif./Irvine Valley College/El Modena HS),
Anthony O'Canas (Woodland, Calif./American River College/Woodland HS) and
Ryan Shimabukuro (El Cerrito, Calif./College of Marin/Saint Mary's College HS)
Position players celebrated were first baseman/designated hitter
Harrison Clark (Snoqualmie, Wash./Bellevue College/Mount Si HS), shortshop
Cade Fujii (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Porterville College/Kapolei HS), outfielder
Alex Greb (Seattle/Wenatchee Valley College/Ballard HS) and catcher
Trysten Mooney (Helena, Mont./Wenatchee Valley College/Capital HS)
All three active pitchers were on the mound in the twin bill (Cody suffered a season-ending injury in March) while all four position players had least one hit and one RBI. Clark and Mooney collected two hits on the afternoon.
Chaminade ended the third year of its resurrected program at 11-38 overall and 9-34 in the Pacific West Conference while Hawai'i Hilo is 16-26 and 15-23 in the conference.
Game 1: UHH 12, CUH 5
The Vulcans struck the first blow with three runs in the top of the first inning. The 'Swords responded in their half of the frame on Fujii's sacrifice fly.
Clark led off the second with a walk then scored on Greb's sac fly.
Taylor Ayala (Bountiful, Utah/Salt Lake CC/Woods Cross HS) tied it at 3, scampering home on a wild pitch then
Chris Mata (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/South Mountain CC/Maui HS) extended his hitting streak to 11, doubling in
Alex Hamada (Aliso Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) to put Chaminade ahead, 4-3.
But UH Hilo tied it in the third then took the lead with a pair of scores in the fourth. They added insurance runs in their final three innings. The 'Swords got their final run in the seventh on Mooney's run-scoring single in the seventh.
O'Cañas, getting his final career start, was the recipient of bad luck with all three first inning runs being unearned. Despite struggling with command in the fourth, he was allowed to finish the frame, then threw a scoreless fifth before being relieved by
Kyle Seo (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento City College/Inderkum HS) after getting the leadoff out in the sixth to high-fives from his teammates and ovation from Swords Ohana.
O'Cañas went 5 1/3 in his final start. Seo went the next 2 2/3 while Belmodis faced two batters in the ninth in his final career appearance.
Reyn Kapua (Honolulu/Mid-Pacific Institute) got the final three outs including inducing a double play.
Mooney went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his final start behind the plate while Fujii and Greb had RBIs.
Michael Bonenfant pitched 7 1/3 innings to earn the win in relief.
Game 2: UHH 6, CUH 3
After spotting the Vulcans two runs,
Bode Poler (Montesano, Wash./Gonzaga University/Montesano HS) led off the second with a single, then Greb followed suit with a double. Poler would score on an error then
Ryden Toyama (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist Academy) came through with an RBI hit to bring Greb home to knot the score at 2.
Hilo countered with a run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Fujii led off the CUH fifth with a ground-rule double then Clark poked a single to shallow right to bring Fujii in, Clark's first RBI of the season.
Down 6-3 in the sixth, the Silverswords managed to bring the tying run to the plate but couldn't bring them back into the dugout.
Clark, who suffered an injury-plagued 2025, had a memorable final game, going 2-for-4, his first career multi-hit game, in addition to his RBI. Fujii and Greb both had hits in their final game. Fujii, who was plunked in his final at-bat in the seventh, finished his two-year career with a .307 batting average, the highest in program history.
Mata went 2-for-4, ending the season with a single-season record .409 batting average, and a 12-game hitting streak. The junior centerfield also had a program-record 17-game hit streak earlier this season and had at least one hit in 33 of his 41 games.
Shimabukuro, a reliever throughout his career at Chaminade, got his fourth straight start and produced the longest outing of his career, going 3 2/3 innings in his final game in a Chaminade uniform.
Fisher Migita (Honolulu/Mid-Pacific Institute) and
Tyler Geivet (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) went the final 3 1/3.
Noah Darnell got the win for UH Hilo while Logan Sanchez pitched the seventh inning to get the save.
