LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team wrapped up their four-match Southern California road swing Tuesday with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-20 defeat to Biola University at Chase Gymnasium.
Allison Panter (Denver, Colo./Portland State University/Denver School of Science and Technology HS) had a team-high eight kills and three service aces as the Silverswords closed out the month of September by going 1-3 on the trip.
Siria Guerini (Martinengo, Italy/Universita Telematica Pegaso/Liceo don Lorenzo Milani HS) and
Lillie Hinton (Spicewood, Texas/Lake Travis) added seven and six kills, respectively.
Tabby Allen (Leander, Texas/Rouse),
Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons) and
Mykelle Brainard (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge) added four kills each. Allen and Brainard also had two blocks each.
Lilinoe Paschoal (Paukukalo, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin) had 18 assists while
Kyra Pagud (Honolulu/Moanalua) came up with 11 digs as Chaminade fell to 8-8 and 2-4 in the Pacific West Conference.
Juliana Van Ommering had a match-high 12 kills to help the Eagles win their 10th straight – the longest active streak in the PacWest – improving to 11-2 and a conference-leading 6-0.
After dropping the opening set, Panter's ace put Chaminade up 6-5 in the second, their first lead of the night. A pair of kills from Brainard were a part of a 4-0 'Swords' run, giving them an 18-13 lead. But the good times didn't last as three hitting and a setting error were part of a 9-1 Eagles surge which enabled them to take the frame.
Biola held as many as a nine-point lead in the final set, although the Silverswords were able to stave off three match points to close within four before the home team ended it on their fourth try.
Chaminade hit .184 with 36 kills, 33 assists, 38 digs, four aces and five blocks. Biola had 43 kills on 41 assists and a .301 hitting percentage with 33 digs, six aces and seven blocks.
The Silverswords will return home for the first time since Sept. 5 to face Jessup University on Thursday, Oct. 1 at McCabe Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
