SAN DIEGO – The Chaminade University women's soccer team began their four-match Southern California road trip Thursday at conference power Point Loma, the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams.
The Silverswords were dealt a 2-0 defeat to the two-time defending PacWest champion Sea Lions at the PLNU Soccer/Track Complex.
Milan Cordone (Las Vegas/University of Northern Iowa/Coronado HS),
Mackenzie Jamison (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) and
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) accounted for all three 'Swords' shots. Jamison's and Kiefer's attempts were on-goal. Cordone, Kiefer and
Brooke Perreira (Honolulu/Kaiser) played all 90 minutes on the pitch.
Sydney Bakritzes (Edina, Minn./University of North Dakota/Edina HS) logged a career-high nine saves for Chaminade (0-7-1, 0-1 PacWest).
The Sea Lions (4-2-3, 1-0 PacWest) got the first goal in the 39th minute by Gianna Masinster then tacked on an insurance score in the 76th minute.
Trailing 1-0, the 'Swords were inches away from the equalizer in the 55th minute but a midfield set piece by Jamison that was destined to drop under the crossbar was deflected away.
Point Loma took 18 shots, 11 on target, while goalkeeper Cameron Simmons made a pair of saves. They also had an 8-to-5 advantage on corner kicks.
The Silverswords will be at Biola on Saturday at 1 p.m. Hawai'i time.
