Spring 2021 is the first year for Aaron Yanagi as an assistant coach for the Chaminade University men’s soccer team. Yanagi was a private soccer trainer and a volunteer assistant for the Iolani High School varsity boys soccer team from 2018 to ’20.
Yanagi was a four-year letterwinner at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., where he helped the Pirates win three Northwest Conference championships and three NCAA Division III regional appearances. During the 2015 season, he helped Whitworth achieve a No. 3 national ranking, which tied for the highest in program history. He was also a part of the Bucs’ squad which reached the Round of 16 in 2014. While at Whitworth, he was a team captain for a year while also earning all-conference second team and honorable mention kudos.
Yanagi is a 2014 graduate of Iolani School where he helped guide the Raiders to a pair of Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles and one Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association championship. He was also two-time All-ILH First Team selection and named all-state once. He also played club soccer for the Honolulu Bulls and Lanikai Tuesday on O‘ahu as well as the Spokane Shadow in Washington state.
