  • Title
    Assistant Coach
The 2017 season will be the second for Nick Smith as an assistant coach on the Chaminade University men's soccer team.

In 2016, Smith helped guide the Silverswords to a 5-9-1 mark including 5-7-1 in the Pacific West Conference, tying the program record for conference wins in a season. They showed their offensive prowess by scoring 15 goals, third-most in single-season history, and 45 points which is tied for third while their 15 assists broke the record of 14 set in 2014.

Smith is no stranger to the Chaminade campus, joining the soccer team as a freshman in 2007, which was only the second year of existence for the fledgling program. Smith assumed the role of team captain the following year and co-led the Silverswords in goals, being named to the All-Pacific West Conference First Team as a midfielder for his efforts.

Smith then transferred to the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Connecticut, playing on the Purple Knights' soccer squad for his final two years of athletic eligibility in the 2009 and '10 seasons. He provided an immediate impact by being named team captain both seasons. Smith also served as president of the Model United Nations for two years and was the Bridgeport's International College Student of the Year in 2011. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in International Political Economy and Diplomacy in 2011.

Following his graduation, Smith moved to California and in November 2011, created Touch Futsol, a youth league in Irvine, California. He oversaw all day-to-day aspects of the league and within two months, Touch Futsol comprised of over 800 children and 60 teams.

Smith later returned to Connecticut in the summer 2012 and became the Pre-Academy Head Coach for South Central Premier in New Haven, organizing plans for player development. He helped to produce three players that entered national team camps while another was selected to the national team.

He also returned to his alma mater, Bridgeport, as a graduate assistant coach during the 2012 season. The Purple Knights finished the year as the East Coach Conference co-regular season champions.

Smith returned to the West Coast to study law and received his Juris Doctorate in 2016 from the University of California, Hastings School of Law in San Francisco.
