The fall 2022 season is the first for Paul Shimomoto as an assistant coach for both the Chaminade University men's and women's soccer programs and will oversee the goalkeepers. He is also involved in scouting and recruiting.
He was previously the men's head coach for two seasons during the spring and fall 2021 seasons.
Shimomoto is in his second stint as an assistant for the Silverswords men. His first was in 2019 which saw them finish 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the Pacific West Conference, both school records. It was also the first-ever back-to-back winning seasons in program history. With his assistance, the 'Swords set single-season records for points (64) and goals (25).
The Honolulu native has been involved in the local soccer scene for over two decades and brings a wealth of knowledge as both a head and assistant coach in his stops.
Shimomoto was a Director of Coaching (East) for the Hawai'i Rush Soccer Club where he oversaw and supervised development and training for competitive boys and girls teams from U16 to U19. He is also the founder of the Honolulu Galaxy Futbol Club where, for 11 years, he oversaw and supervised player development and handled administrative responsibilities for more than 300 players and families. He has also organized and supervised international training opportunities for his youth club players in Italy (AC Milan, AS Roma and Chievo Verona), England (Manchester City and West Ham United) and France (Toulouse FC and Olympic Lyonnais).
Shimomoto spent 19 years involved in the Iolani High School boys soccer program, working with the goalkeepers. From 1998 through 2017, he was an assistant coach with the varsity squad, helping lead the Raiders to seven Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles as well as three Hawai'i High School Athletic Association championships (2000, '09, '14). In 2013 he also assumed the role as Iolani's junior varsity head coach and led them to the ILH JV championship.
His roles at Iolani included the planning and executing all aspects of daily training, assisted with strength and conditioning workouts and was responsible for video breakdown and analysis. During his tenure there, he not only helped several of the team's goalkeepers attain All-ILH and all-state honors, but also to gain collegiate careers at various schools in the NCAA Divisions I, II and III ranks.
Shimomoto is an Iolani graduate and received his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Denver and was member of the Pioneers' soccer team as a goalkeeper.
He also earned his Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University School of Law. He currently is a partner in Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel, LLP, as a corporate attorney.
