Jaeda Kumaewa-Cabunoc is in her first year as an assistant coach for the Chaminade University softball team and will oversee the pitchers.
The Kaneohe, O'ahu, native was a three-time All-Pacific West Conference selection for the Silverswords, earning third team honors as a utility player in 2022 and second team kudos at third base in 2023 and '24 during a five-year playing career from 2020-24.
In the circle, Kumaewa-Cabunoc won 14 games with her 2.60 ERA the second-lowest in Chaminade recorded history while her 1.36 WHIP (walks and hits per inning) is the third-lowest. In her final season as a 'Sword, she was the team's closer and posted a 0.00 ERA with a pair of saves. In 2022, she had 10 wins with two shutouts.
As a slugger, she was a career .244 hitter with 38 RBI and 18 extra base hits with 73 starts at the hot corner during the 2020, '23 and '24 seasons. During the 2021 season which was shortened to just 24 games due to the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, she got 20 starts in centerfield with three at shortstop. During the 2023 season, Kumaewa-Cabunoc hit a career-best .284 with 14 RBI, 21 runs and seven extra base hits.
Kumaewa-Cabunoc earned her degree in Forensic Science in the spring of 2024.
