Rayna Hood returns to the Chaminade University softball team as an assistant coach in 2024, marking her second year with the program in her current capacity. Her first year as an assistant was 2021.
Hood is considered one of the top hitters in Silverswords' softball history. Her .416 career batting average in her two-year Chaminade career is the best in school history and remains the only batter to own a career average of over .400. She is also the team's career leader in slugging percentage (.679) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.456) and fourth in home runs (13).
Known as Rayna Strom-Okimoto during her playing days, Hood transferred to Chaminade from Southern Oregon University for the 2011-12 academic year and immediately helped transform the 'Swords into a feared slugging lineup. In her first season as a junior, she hit a school-record .433 with four homers, 30 RBI and a .679 slugging percentage. During the prestigious Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif., she batted .526 to help the 'Swords capture the TOC Bronze Bracket title, the team's only bracket championship in the prestigious tournament and a spot on the all-tournament team. She garnered numerous post-season accolades including Pacific West Conference Newcomer of the Year, All-PacWest Second Team at shortstop and All-PacWest First Team utility as well as Daktronics Division II All-West Region honors.
In her senior year (2013), Hood hit .401 with 35 RBI and nine homers with a .679 slugging percentage to earn All-PacWest Second Team honors at shortstop. The Silverswords also saw team success, winning 25 games, the most since 2002 and one shy of the school record set that same year, along with a school-record 17 games in the PacWest.
