Longtime softball coach Roger Javillo is in his second year as an assistant for the Chaminade University softball team for the 2021 season and serves as the Silverswords' pitching coach. He spent the previous 16 years as an assistant coach across town at Hawai'i Pacific University.
In the first year under his tutelage, the Silverswords' pitching staff posted a 2.67 ERA during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, the lowest since 2002. He followed it with a 2.97 team ERA in 2021.
Javillo began his collegiate coaching career in the 2004 season at HPU as a volunteer assistant and pitching coach. One of his finest on-field memories was the 2010 season when the Sharks captured the NCAA Division II national championship with Javillo's pitching staff compiling a 1.13 ERA which was second in the nation and led by ace hurler Sherise Musquiz's 34 wins and 1.03 ERA. In his final year at HPU in 2019, he helped Jordan Curry finish among the conference leaders in ERA (2.44) while her 19 wins were the most by a Shark since 2012.
He was also a successful assistant coach in the local high school ranks for 17 years with stops at Maryknoll, Punahou, Iolani and Kamehameha-Kapalama. He also spent nearly two decades as an ASA Division I and II umpire, was the Hawai'i Umpire in Chief and umpired in four ASA national tournaments and was an umpire in several Hawai'i Cups which featured national teams from the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan.
Javillo is originally from the Big Island and is a graduate of Kohala High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball, football and track. He and his wife, Wendy, reside in Honolulu.
