Hilary Arakaki

Hilary Arakaki is in her fifth year as assistant coach for the Chaminade University women's basketball program, joining the program in the 2020-21 season, and has over 15 years of basketball coaching experience at various levels in the high school and club ranks in Hawai'i and on the mainland. Her duties at Chaminade include assisting with implementation of the daily practice schedule, recruiting and player development.

Arakaki's second year saw the Silverswords post four wins, the most by the program since 2019-20 while the team's scoring average increased to 61.6, the fourth-highest in single-season team history. The year was highlighted by a 77-66 win over Hawai'i Pacific on Jan. 18, their first victory over their in-city rival in nearly 16 years and snapping a 40-game skid in the series.

During the 2022-23 season, the 'Swords set a single-season team record with 1,013 total rebounds, marking the first time in program history the team surpassed the millennium mark in boards while the team's 39.0 per game average was the second-highest ever. They also held opponents to a shooting percentage of 40.0, the second-lowest ever. Junior guard Olivia Crigler set a program record with 57 3-pointers, which broke Samantha Saito's record of 50 which stood for 14 years. Fellow guard Dallas Martinez also made history, registering the program's first-ever triple-double with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists against Champion Christian on Jan. 2, 2023.

Prior to coming to Chaminade, Arakaki was with Nanakuli High School during the 2019-20 season where she was head coach of the Hawks' junior varsity team while helping with the varsity staff. The previous two years (2017-19) were at Hawai'i Baptist Academy, serving as an Intermediate 2 Gold team assistant in her first year at HBA then the team's head coach in 2018-19. She also was an assistant coach at Roosevelt High School's varsity and JV teams in 2015-16.

Arakaki has also been a volunteer coach for the After School All-Star Hawai'i 7th/8th grade team as well as the Boys and Girls Club in both Honolulu and in Bellevue, Wash.

Arakaki is a 2003 graduate of the University of Oregon in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology while earning several academic awards that spring. She was a three-time letterwinner at Punahou School, helping the Buff-N-Blu capture back-to-back state titles in 1997 and '98. Arakaki was also a member of the inaugural class of recipients for the Kalakaua Basketball Clinic Scholarship Award.
