Honolulu, HI- A hot shooting first half, continued in the second half for Chaminade, while the Swords stifled the Nanooks in the second twenty minutes for a 99-72 win at McCabe Gym.
The Swords had four players in double figures, led by a breakout performance by Joel Smith with 35 points on 11-15 shooting, along with 10-13 from three. Mohamed Tangara added 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the win.
The game was tight in the opening half, as the Swords took a 50-49 lead into the break.
Chaminade clamped down on Alaska in the second half, holding the Nanooks to 31% shooting from the floor, and 11% from three.
The Swords had many contributions in the win. Noah Gottlieb had a season high 9 assists, while Shane Hanson had 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 points on the night. Senior guard Darrell Birton added 11 points and 5 assists.
Emmanuel Jenkins led Alaska with 23 points.
Junior Rickey Clayborn added 9 points and 5 rebounds, while Patrick Collier had 10 points on 3-4 shooting from the arc.
Chaminade improves to 1-4 on the year. The Nanooks fall to 0-5. The Swords play again on Friday against Drury on December 16th at McKinley High. Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT.
