Box Score
Honolulu, HI- No Rodrick Johnson (fouls). No Stewart Kussler (fouls). It didn't matter as Chaminade's bench sent a message that was heard loud and clear in McCabe Gym this Wednesday night.
Facing a talented BYU-Hawaii squad, the Swords answered every Seasider rally and defeated the team from Laie in a matchup of the first and second place teams in the Pac West conference.
The game was back and forth early, as the game went to the break 35-31, CUH.
The second half started with a big Chaminade run, as the Swords went up thirteen early on. The Seasiders, a veteran team in their own right, responded and the last five minutes were neck and neck, with the Silverwords holding onto only the slightest of margins.
Chaminade lost both Rodrick Johnson and Stewart Kussler in this last stanza (both were plagued with fouls all night). It looked as though BYU-Hawaii would try to take advantage of this, but the Swords would not let it happen.
Key rebounds by Chaminade's senior guards, a block by Patrick Collier, an offensive rebound by Dan Wendt and free throws by James Francisco clinched the Sword victory in the final two minutes.
Hayden Heiber had 18 points and 8 assists, Rodrick Johnson has 12 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
Stewart Kussler also added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
Paul Peterson was slippery all night, scoring 21 points, including 3-5 from three.
The Swords won the battle of the glass, 41-38.
Chaminade moves to 16-5, 11-1 with the loss, BYU-H moves to 11-6, 6-4 with the win.
The Swords are back in action on Feb 8th against UH-Hilo. Game time is set for 7:30 PM in UHH Gymnasium.
