CUH MBB: Swords Advance In NCAA Tournament, Defeat Humboldt State 68-60

Kussler dominate in NCAA tourney victory

Anchorage, AK-The Swords faced a stiff opponent in Humboldt State University this afternoon and won a hard-fought victory, 68-60. CUH led at the break by a score of 32-30, behind a big first half by Marko Kolaric, who had 11 points in the opening stanza.

Chaminade had contributions from everyone, as Kolaric and Johnson were saddled with two fouls for large portions of the first half. This gave the Jacks of Humboldt State an opening inside and they took advantage.

Humboldt State seniors, Devin Peal and Cy Vandermeer were tough all night, combining for 38 points and 25 rebounds. It was not enough, as Chaminade's defensive effort held the Jacks to 32% from the floor for the game.

Stewart Kussler had 17 points and 15 boards for the Siverswords and Marko Kolaric added another double-double 15 and 12 boards along with 4 blocks. Hayden Heiber scored 12 points and had 8 assists, playing the full 40 minutes.

Chaminade out-rebounded Humboldt by a very close margin, 46-45.

With the win, Chaminade (21-7) is set to face #7 seed BYU-Hawaii, who defeated Cal State San Bernardino 67-63 in the 2/7 match-up. The game will be Saturday evening 5PM AT in the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. It is a West Region semifinal.
