CUH MBB: Swords Nearly Pull Off Upset Bid Against UH in 70-61 Defeat

Bennett leads CUH with 15 points, 8 assists

Honolulu, HI- What an effort for the Swords.  Chaminade led the University of Hawaii for the first 36 minutes and 6 seconds of across-town battle at the Stan Sheriff Center.  The Rainbow Warriors wrestled the lead away with 3:54 remaining in the contest going up by one point, 60-59. 

 

Hawai'i knocked down their free throws down the stretch to get the win, 70-61.  Six of UH's last ten points came from the charity stripe. 

 

CUH came out shooting the ball well in the first half, knocking down nine three's in the opening stanza.  Shane Hanson connected on four three's for the contest and his fourth put the Swords up thirteen, 38-25 at the break.  Steven Bennett ran the team for the Swords, finding open shooters to the tune of 8 assists to go along with 15 points. 

 

The Swords barely lost the battle of the glass, 40-41.  Chandler Pearson led the way, corralling 9 rebounds to go along with 11 points on the evening.  Chris Smith added 6 points and 5 rebounds for Chaminade.  CUH held Hawai'i to 39.7% from the floor on the contest.

 

Senior Cartier Carter had 8 points and 5 rebounds on the contest for CUH.  Roderick Flemings led UH with 18 points and 10 rebounds. 

 

Chaminade moves to 1-4 on the year. Hawaii improves to 4-4.   The Swords are back in action vs. Hawaii-Hilo on December 11th at McCabe Gym.  Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT.
