Waipahu, HI- The Silversowrds faced the number one team in the nation tonight in a double header match up at CORPS field. They fell by a score of 3 to 1 and 8 to 6. Both games were battles, Chaminade did not go down with out a fight, in fact they led going to into the Top of the 7th inning by score of 6 to 3, the Lady Eagles proved why the our truly the # 1 ranked team in the nation.
Game # 1 - No one can dispute that the Swords had their hands full tonight at CORPS field going up against the number 1 ranked team in the country, despite that they lost the first game only by a score of 3 to 1. The game started out tough on Chaminade as Sarah Norris belted the ball of the left field fence for a homerun, giving them an early one run lead that they wouldn't give back to the Swords. Kristine Mihara gets the credit for the sole RBI on the game, she crushed the ball to right filed advancing Melissa Harris from third who had singled earlier in the inning.
Chelsi Walls is charged with the loss, she falls to 0-8 on the year. She pitched all 7 innings, he faced 29 batters total. She gave up 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 1.
Game # 2- This game literally came to three outs, Chaminade needed three outs to win and in the end gave up 5 runs to the number 1 ranked team in the country and fell by a score of 8 to 6. A lot of positive things happened in this game for the Swords; Skye Virtudes led off the bottom of the 1st inning with her first homerun of the season. She took Julia Popovich deep to center field on a full count, she battled with her, knocking around a couple of foul balls before the big swing that sent the ball flying over the center field fence.
The Swords 8 total hits and 6 runs. Everyone batted the ball well; Chaminade played unselfish softball and nearly came out victorious, they played well until the final inning giving up 3 homeruns in the Top of the 7th, they gave up 5 hits and 5 runs in the inning.
Kasy'e Lalau is charged with the loss, she falls to 1 and 7 overall. She faced 37 batters, gave up 15 hits, she struck out 4 and walked 1.
With the loss, CUH moves to 1-15 overall and 0-4 in the Pac West Conference, while Lock Haven University moves to 2-3 overall. Chaminade hosts Notre Dame de Namur on March 11th , 2009. Game time is set 4:30 PM HST this game is a double header and will be played CORPS Field.
