Honolulu, HI- The first match of the Hawaii Challenge Cup was a showdown against Hawaii Pacific.
The Sea Warriors got on the board first, with a goal by Max Anton in the 26th minute. HPU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Jim Terry and Kainoa Kahui added goals in the 57th and 61st minutes respectively for a 3-0 Sea Warrior lead. The Swords would not go quietly, as Charles (Chad ) Thompson got the Swords on the board in the 64th minute to conclude the scoring at 3-1. Keenan Ho had two shots for Chaminade.
Darren Smith made 8 saves in defeat for CUH. The Swords were out-shot 14-6.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 1-1. HPU falls to 2-0. Chaminade plays tomorrow, September 12th against BYU-Hawaii in Hilo, HI in the Challenge Cup Consolation match. Kickoff is scheduled for a 1 PM start (HT).
