Honolulu, HI- The consolation match of the Hawaii Challenge turned into a shootout as the Seasiders defeated Chaminade 5-3.
The Seasiders wasted no time getting on the board, getting a rebound goal from Sam Akinaka in the 4th minute. Chaminade freshman Austin Maher (San Antonio, TX/Clark) answered back in the 20th minute off an assist from William West (Raleigh, NC/Leesville). BYU-Hawaii's Chris Wood put the Seasiders back in front 2-1 on his first of three goals of the afternoon in the 33rd minute.
The Silverswords then took play to BYU-Hawaii. CUH scored two goals inside two minutes late in the first half, the first in the 41st minute off the foot of Jonathan Fukumoto (Mililani, HI/Mililani) (assisted by William West). Nicholas Bothelho (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis) added the second on a penalty kick in the 42 minute to make it 3-2 Chaminade at the break.
The Seasiders added 3 unanswered goals in the second half for the 5-3 win.
Darren Smith made 6 saves in defeat for CUH. Daniel Dartt added 2 saves for Chaminade. The Swords were out-shot 21-10.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 1-2. BYU-Hawaii improves to 1-2. Chaminade is set for a rematch with BYU-Hawaii on September 19th in Laie, HI. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM HT.Boxscore.htm
