Chaminade WVB: Swords Fall to Urban Knights of Academy of Art in Four Games

Maduli leads CUH with 11 kills, 15 digs

San Francisco, CA- The Swords fell to Academy of Art in four games this evening in the first of five matches in the Bay Area over the next seven days. Chaminade took game one 25-23 before falling to the Urban Knights 14-25, 20-25, 22-25. The Swords battled throughout, nearly taking the fourth game, leading 21-20 after a Pisila Tukia (Phoenix, AZ Tempe) kill. AAU eventually took the fourth and final game 25-22. Chauntelle Maduli (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) continued her solid play, finishing with 11 kills and 15 digs on the match for the Swords. Freshman Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) added 14 kills and 9 digs. Freshman Kylee Pedro (Honolulu, HI/Mid-Pacific) had 6 kills and 14 digs for CUH. Junior setter Tanya Alvino (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) had 39 assists and 11 digs for Chaminade, while sophomore Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui HS) added 14 digs for the Swords. The defensive battle was a stalemate at 73 digs apiece. Team blocks went to AAU 13-1. The Urban Knights were led by Dan Yang with 20 kills and 19 digs. Melissa Cheng led AAU with 44 assists. With the loss, Chaminade moves to 1-12. Academy of Art improves to 13-4. The Swords are back in action tomorrow (Sept. 30th) against NDNU. First serve is set for 7:00 PM PT in Belmont, CA (Walter Gleason Gym).
